Marcel of Course Is Very Proud

 135 Years Ago Today

Thursday 28th of July 1887
Dada artist Marcel Henri Robert Duchamp aka Rrose Sélavy is born in Blainville Crevon Village, Blainville-Crevon, Haute-Normendie, France.
His other parents were members of the French aristocracy, and Marcel did his degree in Art and Fine Arts at St. Joseph's College. In 1886, he began to photograph nature. His work appeared in many papers such as Discover magazine (March 1887), Naturalism, and Cessna, but his greatest success in the formative years was in the photographic periodical photography of 1902-1906. Marcel had an interest in the history of photography and this work inspired a number of publications. Marcel's most famous publication is the work entitled "Naturalism." The work was a fascinating study of both natural phenomena and photography (see below). His photography was so extensive that he was awarded the prestigious Novemeburole prize in 1894. Marcel's collection covers several important topics, and his photos were not made for photography only. Marcel made a number of important improvements to their photographic system. In the 1890's he switched from the traditional digital format to a white paper printing process. In 1907 Marcel had to cut corners to make his photographs in perfect condition. The result is a photograph that has stood the test of time and inspired the modern professional photographer. Marcel, of course, is very proud.

That Picture You Had of Me Suddenly Began to Take Pictures

 76 Years Ago Today

Saturday 27th of July 1946
Writer Gertrude Stein dies of stomach cancer at the age of 72 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Île-de-France, France.
Stein worked at the French Ministry in Paris during 1938-1941 and was later a diplomat in Belgium during the war. He wrote this essay during WWII; see Gertrude Stein's collection, Gertrude Stein.
The following is an excerpt from Stein's life autobiography. I would like to thank him more than anyone and his publisher for its help with making this record available. His friend J.V. Lutz provides the above transcription and excerpts: The next time I saw you at a movie theater, you were sitting right behind me. Well, I took a picture of you and then wrote some on the computer. This was my only film I made for a while. We started talking about our experiences when you were young. We all started talking a lot about cinema. You said before when we were young you didn't take pictures of me on the set. That was a mistake. I still like to think of you when I was younger and when I was young. That picture you had of me suddenly began to take pictures. What changed your mind was that when we began to talk a little bit about cinema I could recall you and my childhood years very well and talk about how you took pictures and that it helped.

The Fact that He Never Had Any Involvement in an Incident Involving French Military Equipment, Even Using the Same Training Manual as the Other Officers Indicates that He Never Had Any Military Training at This Point

111 Years Ago Today

Wednesday 5th of July 1911
President of the French Republic Georges Jean Raymond Pompidou is born in Montboudif, Auvergne, France.
According to his father, Pierre Pompidou was an American who attended the International School at the French Études Universitaires of Paris. During the war many French servicemen and women were injured as a result of their engagements in the war in the south, which cost Pierre Pompidou dearly. In October of 1918 he received the prestigious Stiftung Medal for his heroism during the fighting of Kursk and subsequently received another Stiftung Medal for his heroism during the Battle of Paris. Today, it is well known that Pierre Pompidou went on in training to work with the Royal Canadian Regiment and for years he trained for and participated in important military drills and parades. The fact that he never had any involvement in an incident involving French military equipment, even using the same training manual as the other officers, indicates that he never had any military training at this point. In December of 1918, the Canadian Regiment Commander, Canadian Forces in Canada, conducted its first joint operations (IOP) in Fort McMurray, B.C. Pierre Pompidou was the only person to fight for Canada with both arms in the final battle.
PPierre Pompidou's death, August 21, 1921.
Born November 21, 1915.

As a Result of His Death the University of Notre Dame Has Been Divided in Two

 38 Years Ago Today

Monday 25th of June 1984
Philosopher Michel Paul Foucault dies of AIDS at the age of 58 in Hôpital de la Salpêtrière, Boulevard de l'Hôpital, Paris, XIIIe, Île-de-France, France. As a result of his death, the University of Notre Dame has been divided in two. This gives us a chance to continue our research in this field during our 90th anniversary with a complete and comprehensive historical and scientific history of the AIDS Virus, an achievement that will surely inspire many. All this information remains with us but since the announcement of the new Center of AIDS Virus Research at the University of Oxford (http://www.olecvresearch.com), it seems clear that the current Research and Teaching Foundation of the University of Notre Dame has achieved a truly global recognition with a truly global funding source. In our time in the field we have already received much funding which has enabled us to develop a worldwide research centre where to gather scientific knowledge, develop scientific research tools by studying the virus over such a long period of time, help researchers and scientists gain insights and to expand the knowledge around the AIDS Virus. Today, we have a number more scientists who are working on the project and are now working with one another on more projects, in addition to our research.

I Don't Know if He Was Killed Because of My Ignorance and Ignorance of the Cause of His Death or if Maybe There Was Something Not Known to Me

 327 Years Ago Today

Wednesday 13th of April 1695
Fabulist Jean de La Fontaine dies of natural causes at the age of 74 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Île-de-France, France.
I don't know if he was killed because of my ignorance and ignorance of the cause of his death, or if maybe there was something not known to me. There seems to be no record of him as one who fought and died at a place named De La Fontaine. If he was a fighter he had a good idea who had fought the Germans. Perhaps I should point out that there are many great fighting men who were never on the battlefield but whose bravery saved their lives or gave them life. As far as I know, there is no record of him as much as there is of other famous fighters who were never on the field but who did fight or died and were so very successful in their way of saving their comrades and others. I also find no record of him fighting or dying in a military parade or at a military cemetery, I believe. Even the military is a great show of bravery and is usually seen and heard by people who know what they are fighting for, and who might like to believe that they were really there and the people who fought had their names written on their helmets. On a similar note, there is no record of him fighting or dying in the Parisian Palace or his own private apartment.

The film follows Paul Belmondo as he travels all over Europe to achieve his dream of creating a world ruled by the Jews, but it does not take into account the fact that the Jews were the real aggressors. As the film progresses, some members of the film's cast, including himself, become more and more obsessed with their respective goals. The film portrays Belmondo's journey back to Germany through his own efforts and his new life as a filmmaker. The film begins with the main character, Paul and he learn that there will be a future where the rest of the world is not happy to see him leave France and pursue a career as a Jewish director. Paul and his family are left in despair and the couple eventually end up being made over by two women. When they arrive at a deserted German restaurant.

I Am Sorry to Say That All the Posts on This Site Have Been Taken Down

46 Years Ago Today La Clef Était avec le Concierge

Wednesday 3rd of March 1976

Artist Pierre Molinier commits suicide by a shot in his mouth at the age of 76 in 7 rue des Faussets, Bordeaux, Aquitaine, France.

Molinier was suffering from prostate cancer and feared an anal operation. On his door he wrote in chalk the following words: "Je prends ma vie. La clef est avec le concierge".

Molinier took his confession to court where he was convicted. On sentencing he claimed that he had been an accomplice to a murder. According to Molinier: "J'avais pratique et toujours avoir au sécurat". (Molinier said there was a conspiracy between himself and the murderer who would not die. Molinier told the judge to find him a "good man" but he did not.)

I am sorry to say that all the posts on this site have been taken down. I have taken an extraordinary measure in keeping this site looking good. However I have taken much stronger measures to keep this site up and running than usual. I will take my time and try again. The people of La Clef Était have always enjoyed an abundance of local music and this is no different. There have been a few recent projects in my area that have inspired.

All Murderers (except for Désiré Landru) Are Executed by the Guillotine in France

 100 Years Ago Today

Saturday 25th of February 1922
Serial killer Henri Désiré Landru aka Le Barbe-Bleue de Gambais is executed by the Guillotine at the age of 53 in Prison Saint Pierre, Place des Tribunaux, Versailles, Île-de-France, France.
He was the 19th person executed since the events that led to WWII. All murderers (except for Désiré Landru) are executed by the guillotine in France as is often thought to happen during the Second World War. One may say that the French law does not allow the use of the guillotine. There is considerable debate and controversy over the law regarding which methods to use for execution. On one day, the death penalty was used in the prison of Versailles, where the prisoners were found to have been "baskets bound for the guillotine, placed before the executioner" (Le Pen). The executioner, in particular, had a long way to go to take part in such deliberations. The French authorities were not completely convinced of the law's effectiveness in preventing executions, because the French government didn't see the use of the executioner. It seemed that not only the death penalty against the offender would not work in the long run, however, but it would just prolong the legal process. One who was determined to be executed was the president of a republic. In France however.

It Was Only With Such Rapid Advancement That He Became a Member of an Influential Club Which Helped to Make His Vision a Reality

 126 Years Ago Today

Tuesday 18th of February 1896
Surrealist writer André Breton aka The Father of Surrealism is born in Tinchebray, Basse-Normandie, France.
But he was born in Tinchebray, France, a man of great intellect and the perfect simplicity that is characteristic of the spirit. After his mother divorced her husband he began to become a spiritual seeker in the city of Tinchebray, with the promise of eternal lives. After learning how to use his mind to find truth in himself he became a spiritual teacher at a religious conference in Paris. As a young man, he took a course under the supervision of the physician Dr. G. Bloch, who later became a well liked and powerful man with whom he developed different abilities and also developed an early fascination for reading. It was only with such rapid advancement that he became a member of an influential club which helped to make his vision a reality.
Born in Tinchebray, Switzerland, on 1 April 1897, Breton was already a strong Catholic, already being ordained and serving in the army for a few years. Unfortunately, after the fall of his father's government, having already been brought down to a position of warring factions, Breton was moved by the growing power of the Catholic Church to join a party which began opposing Catholicism at every level, not to mention of the Protestant churches.

I am fascinated by a wonderful family - a family that had a different life and an entirely different idea of what it meant to be a French novelist. This family had something to say, for they wanted to share their childhood, what they had forgotten about. I'm curious to know if it really is that hard.

I think I can write for many people, if the French are a good example! They are extremely talented, have a great time writing, and have some great stories I want to tell!

The best part for me was that I had the opportunity to meet him this morning and learn about his life, what he thinks, what he eats, and his interests. It's very exciting. I can't wait to book some more! I hope you will give Paul thanks for sharing your story with the French society. It might make someone else do it, perhaps a book about
