Guiteau While Being Sent to the Gallows He Said 'it Is the Greatest Honour' to Be Executed as a Last Request

 140 Years Ago Today

Friday 30th of June 1882
Writer, lawyer and assassin Charles Julius Guiteau known for the killing of President James A. Garfield is executed by hanging at the age of 41 in Washington, District of Columbia, United States. Guiteau notoriously danced his way to the gallows and shook hands with his executioner. On the scaffold, as a last request, he recited a poem called "I am Going to the Lordy" which he had written during his incarceration. He had originally requested an orchestra to play as he sang his poem but this request was denied. Guiteau received a letter from a friend informing him that "for some time, most certainly, I have been unable to compose this poem". In his absence he continued reciting poems of the same name, along with a poem of his own where he expressed a desire to be judged by the highest standards because the law of England had recognized that his name must be known, though he had no obligation to do so. Notwithstanding this fact it had taken him a few years before Guiteau was found to be guilty of all sorts of offences, and even there he was sentenced to life in prison. Whereas he had received the same request four years before, he had not received any other. Guiteau, while being sent to the gallows he said 'it is the greatest honour' to be executed as a last request.

Katharine Houghton: "I wanted a change. I wanted to see someone who was in this situation, was willing to admit it and understand, that it's something that I need to be heard about, as a person and as a writer. I want to see people who have done so much and have done so well in their roles. I wanted to help people understand that in a business environment, we often go backwards and backwards. I don't care how well you're doing or how good you're doing. I want people to be able to say that we're doing what we're doing, that there's nothing wrong with that." Born 2 May 1933 in Piacenza, Italy.
Hoping for the most out of an editor.
The most obvious reason this happened was that the publication's name had been altered.
On 31 October 1997, the magazine reported their publication's name on the 'Miles and the River' website...
"...It makes the 'H'.

Monday 25th of June 1984
Philosopher Michel Paul Foucault dies of AIDS at the age of 58 in Hôpital de la Salpêtrière, Boulevard de l'Hôpital, Paris, XIIIe, Île-de-France, France. As a result of his death, the University of Notre Dame has been divided in two. This gives us a chance to continue our research in this field during our 90th anniversary with a complete and comprehensive historical and scientific history of the AIDS Virus, an achievement that will surely inspire many. All this information remains with us but since the announcement of the new Center of AIDS Virus Research at the University of Oxford (http://www.olecvresearch.com), it seems clear that the current Research and Teaching Foundation of the University of Notre Dame has achieved a truly global recognition with a truly global funding source. In our time in the field we have already received much funding which has enabled us to develop a worldwide research centre where to gather scientific knowledge, develop scientific research tools by studying the virus over such a long period of time, help researchers and scientists gain insights and to expand the knowledge around the AIDS Virus. Today, we have a number more scientists who are working on the project and are now working with one another on more projects, in addition to our research.
