His Car Had Been Traveling at a Slower Speed Than the Intended Speed of the Vehicle

 18 Years Ago Today

Friday 23rd of January 2004

Photographer Helmut Newton dies of a heart attack at the age of 84 in Chateau-Marmont Hotel, Bungalow #3, 8221 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, California, United States.

Newton was in an accident when his car sped out of control and hit a wall in the driveway of the Chateau Marmont Hotel. Newton died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

His car had been traveling at a slower speed than the intended speed of the vehicle. Horton worked at the hotel for more than a decade as a security guard. Horton was a native of the small town of Luebeck, near Chateau-Marmont, Belgium. Horton was the executive chef at Sainter-Marmont's restaurants in Chapeau-Marmont, Belgium, where Horton worked from 1973 through 1984. Horton was well-liked by its staff and guests who visited. Horton was a member of the Chateaeurs. Horton did not know the names of a few prominent Chateaeurs, many of which had played a major part in his successful career of working with celebrities. Horton, like the rest of the Chateaeurs, had been engaged and married to an American. Horton's success as a private photographer (his first and only photo is listed in the photo exhibit on the El Chapo Inn).
